KOZHIKODE: A travelling exhibition organised by the American Information Resource Center (AIRC) of the U.S. Consulate General for South India, Chennai, at the Malabar Christian College (MCC) here has been drawing a good crowd.

The exhibition features a power point presentation on the resources and services of the AIRC. Multi-media display, book exhibition, video corner and poster shows are also part of the exhibition.

Another attraction was on-the-spot membership for individuals and institutions at the venue. "The exhibition is purely academic. This was to inform the Calicut academia including students, teaching faculty, research scholars who are not aware of the services being offered by AIRC," said Meena Y. Reddy, Chief of Special Services at AIRC.

"We had visitors even from Aluva. On Thursday itself at least 500 to 600 students visited the exhibition," she said. AIRC staff would provide information on how residents outside Chennai can access the Centre's extensive resources via mail, telephone, fax and internet. Individuals joining as members could borrow four books at a time for a period of four weeks. Institutions could borrow twenty books at a time for a period of four weeks and five videocassettes for a period of two weeks.

Institutions would receive free publications like `book alert,' `article and web alert,' `span magazine' `AIRC Newsletter,' and bibliographies and videographes on request. The books would be mailed to members.

The exhibition also has a stall devoted to Fulbright Fellowship programme and higher education in the U.S.

The staff from the United States Educational Foundation in India (USEFI) was present to answer queries.

Ample resources, on social sciences, Government and politics, economics and international relations, American history and literature along with American management practices, were available at the exhibition.

This includes over 15,000 volumes, subscriptions to 140 periodicals in print, several CDs and online database, more than 500 videotapes and an excellent collection on English as a second language.

The exhibition would be open on Friday also (10 a.m. and 7 p.m.).
