Team returns without meeting Union Ministers

GULBARGA: The delegation of the different trade and commerce organisations, including those of the Hyderabad Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Raichur Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Bidar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which went to New Delhi to meet Union Ministers to press for the implementation of the various demands returned without meeting them.

The demands included the establishment of a Railway Divisional headquarters in Gulbarga city, converting the Bijapur-Yeshwantpur Express as daily train and expediting the work of the Gulbarga-Bidar new rail line.

President of the Hyderabad Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry Umakant Nigudgi, who led the delegation, told The Hindu here on Thursday that the delegation could not meet Railway Minister Lalu Prasad or other Union Ministers due to the sudden political developments following the resignation of Union Labour Minister Chandrasekhar Rao and the busy schedule of the Ministers concerned.

The delegation, however, met Union Ministers Oscar Fernandes, M.V. Rajasekharan, K.H. Muniyappa and Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha Rehman Khan and submitted memoranda listing out the demands.

The delegation, which consisted of MPs from the region, including Iqbal Ahmed Saradgi (Gulbarga), Venkatesh Naik (Raichur), Narasinghrao Suryavanshi (Bidar) and Virupakshappa (Koppal), met the Railway Board officials. During their meeting with Mr. Oscar Fernandes, Mr. Muniyappa, Mr. Rehman Khan and Mr. Rajasekharan, the delegation members pressed for their intervention to force the Union Government to release adequate relief to the flood-hit areas in the State.

The other members of the delegation were president of the Raichur Chamber of Commerce and Industry Ramchandra Prabhu, president of the Bidar Chamber of Commerce and Industry B.G. Shektar and managing committee members of the Hyderabad Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Suresh G. Nandyal, Gopalkrishna V. Raghoji, Ramesh Mandkhanalli, Somasekhar Tengli and Farooq Ahmed.
