BELLARY: State Bank of India (SBI) will launch "Project Uptech" for modernisation of the garment industry in Bellary at a function to be held here on Friday. The project is aimed at enhancing the quality, productivity, and bringing in cost-effectiveness, and boosting the industry's competitiveness, according to Pradip Banerjee, assistant general manager, SBI, Bangalore Circle. Speaking to presspersons here on Thursday, Mr. Banerjee said a detailed study of individual units would be taken up to find out the weaknesses and to give suggestions to adopt better technology, improved product design, efficient manufacturing process, reducing waste/rejections, marketing and the like. Workers and supervisors would be trained to improve their skills, awareness and knowledge level. The project involved both funding individual units for modernisation by means of a special funding arrangement and upgrading quality through analysis and process improvements. He said the project would be in operation for three years. R. Sridharan, chief general manager, SBI, Bangalore Circle, will launch the project. Arvind Srivastava, Deputy Commissioner, will be the chief guest. The inaugural session will be followed by a technical seminar for entrepreneurs.
