PONDICHERRY: Chief Minister N. Rangasamy told the Assembly that the administration would exempt Tamil films with Tamil titles from entertainment tax. Replying to a question posed by PMC MLA N. Anand whether the administration would follow the State Government in abolishing entertainment tax, the Chief Minister said it would be given only to Tamil films with Tamil titles. He categorically said that the tax exemption would not be extended to films with any other title or dubbed. Intervening, CPI MLA Viswanathan wanted to know whether the tax exemption would benefit the viewers. The Chief Minister replied in the affirmative. AIADMK MLA A. Anbazhagan said the administration should not emulate all policies of the Tamil Nadu Government. The decisions taken by the Government should be independent taking into consideration the needs of the territory. "Will Government follow in the Tamil Nadu Government's footsteps," he asked. The remarks drew a strong protest from the DMK members but Speaker R. Radhakrishnan intervened and restored order.
