STC enters final

HYDERABAD: Sports Authority of India (STC, Secunderabad) scored a 2-0 win over SAI (STC, Chennai) in the semifinals of the South Zone inter-STC hockey tournament for U-19 boys at the Begumpet Police Stadium here on Thursday.

The host got the lead in the fourth minute when Kasi Viswanath converted a penalty-corner. In the 46th minute, Arvind latched on to a neat pass from Vivek to find the target and seal the fate of the Chennai outfit.

In another semifinal, Bangalore STC recorded an emphatic 5-0 win over Eluru STC. Chandravadhan through a penalty-corner conversion and a field goal by Nitin Thimmaiah put Bangalore ahead at the break. On resumption, Rafiq, Mudappa and Nitin Chinappa struck once each to complete the tally.

Sai Sindhu qualifies

Sai Sindhu defeated Sai Durga 30-2 to qualify for the main draw in the girls' U-16 category of the State sub-junior badminton meet the Officers Club, Warangal on Thursday, according to information received here.

The others who made it to the main draw were P. Navya, Puja Angla, A. Nikitha and P. Anusha.
