Chennai shuttlers reign

DINDIGUL : Chennai regained the men's team title and retained the women's team by defeating Thiruvallur 3-0 and Coimbatore 2-0 respectively in the finals of the Tamil Nadu State senior inter-District badminton championship here on Wednesday night.

The results:

Men's team: Final: Chennai bt Thiruvallur 3-0 (Siddarth Jain bt Deepak Narayanan 21-6, 21-6; Shyam Sundar bt Sangameswaran 21-16, 21-15; Siddarth Jain & Malik Jalal bt Sudan & Kandavel 21-7, 21-13.

Women's team: Chennai bt Coimbatore 2-0 (Annes Kowser bt Archana 21-17, 21-18; Annes Kowser & A. Priya bt Lakshmi Priya & Rama Prabha 21-12, 21-17.

Men's singles (first round): R. Mahendran (Pkt) bt C. Prakash (NLG) 21-17, 21-11; Siddarth Jain (Che) bt V. IOB keeps winning

At Nagercoil, Indian Overseas Bank registered its second successive win defeating Rajiv Gandhi Basketball Academy 74-40 in the four-team Pool A league in men's section in the second annual IOB-Bharat Ratna Rajiv Gandhi all India basketball tournament at Anna Stadium on Wednesday night.

In the women's four-team super league, South Central Railway, Bilaspur bt Western Railway, Mumbai 74-60.

The results: Men: IOB, Chennai 74 (Dinesh 23, Chandrasekar 13) bt Rajiv Gandhi Basketball Academy 40 (Vishanth 16).

Women: South Central Railway, Bilaspur 74 (Anjulakra 22, Seema 19) bt Western Railway 60 (Lincy 20, Menaka 22).

Karnataka runs riot

In Madurai, Karnataka thrashed Kerala 6-0 in the four-team league of the Employees Provident Organisation South Zone football tournament, organised by Madurai Regional Office, at Madura College ground on Thursday. Srinivasan, Abbose (two each), Vasu and Prakash scored.
