Chief Ministers' meet

to be convened

Kochi: A discussion between the Chief Ministers of Kerala and Tamil Nadu will be held to solve the Mullaperiyar issue amicably, Water Resources Minister N.K. Premachandran said. A study conducted by the Centre for Earth Science Studies (CESS) in 2001, had revealed that the Mullaperiyar dam was located at a seismically sensitive zone, the Minister said. The State was looking for a political solution to the dam issue, he added.

Additional flights

to Dubai

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Air-India on Thursday announced additional Air India Express flights from Thiruvanathapuram to Dubai towards the end of the month and next month to cater to the demand of extra seats. The first two additional flights would be operated from Thiruvananthapuram to Dubai on August 28 and 31, departing from Thiruvananthapuram at 12.50 a.m. a statement released by AI said. - PTI

IT relief for cooperatives likely

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram has agreed to consider the restoration of income tax exemption for cooperative banks, the Kerala State Cooperative Union has said. Union chairman Mannadi Anil said in a release here on Thursday that a delegation led by A.Vijayaraghavan, MP, met Mr. Chidambaram and apprised him of the problems faced by the banks in lifting the exemption given under Section 80 (P) of the Income Tax Act. — Special Correspondent

failure: UDF

Thiruvananthapuram: United Democratic Front (UDF) convener P.P. Thankachan has said the State administration is facing a crisis owing to the infighting in the CPI(M) and the LDF. In a statement here on Thursday, Mr. Thankachan said the LDF Government failed to take off even though it was in power for 100 days. Farmers' suicides were continuing, while the 14 custodial-related deaths only exposed the paralysis in the Government's functioning, he said. - Special Correspondent
