KOCHI: The Admission Supervisory Committee, constituted as per the Kerala Professional Colleges Act, on Thursday decided to conduct an inquiry into the entrance test conducted by a consortium of private medical college managements. The committee, headed by former judge P.A. Mohammed, said the test was a "hidden" process. "We are not prepared to say at present that the procedure adopted by the Controller of Examinations (of the consortium) was fair and transparent. Therefore, further inquiry is necessary in this regard. From the documents available before the committee and statements made by the private college managements, it is clear that the final rank list of the students selected for the MBBS course is not prepared mainly on the basis of marks obtained in the entrance examination," the committee said. The procedure adopted by the managements for selection of students was on the basis of marks obtained in interview, entrance examination and qualifying test. "It is revealed that the Controller of Examinations has forwarded a list of candidates without disclosing the marks obtained in the entrance examination even though the marks were said to have been available with the Controller." The committee found that the marks were not made available to the managements or intimated to the students. The candidates who appeared for the interview were not aware of the marks obtained in the entrance examination. "What the management did was to give the marks at the interview and thereafter the list of marks of interview was forwarded to the controller of examinations," the committee said in its order issued on Thursday night. The committee said the Controller had not made any advertisement or publication with regard to the entrance test conducted by the consortium. The next sitting of the admission supervisory committee will be held here on August 29.
