HYDERABAD: The Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) has decided to wait and watch the situation instead of taking sides in the wake of political developments following the resignation of TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao from the Union Cabinet. Briefing reporters after a review meeting presided over by MIM president Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi, party leader in the Assembly Akbaruddin Owaisi said that they would make their stand clear after consulting experts, religious leaders and scholars. The party would finalise its stand taking into consideration the interests of Muslims. Mr. Owaisi said the MIM neither supported nor opposed separate Telangana. It had shed its earlier anti-Telangana stand because all parties, including the Congress and the TRS, were responsible for injustice to the region.
Mandate of Muslims
The party was of the view that it was not just the question of bifurcation of the State but how best problems of Muslims would be addressed in the changed scenario. A decision on Statehood for Telangana could not be taken without the mandate of Muslims, he observed. Mr. Owaisi alleged that the TRS chief has not extracted any commitment from the UPA Government on Telangana when he joined the Union Cabinet along with A. Narendra. On the other hand, Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Lalu Prasad had secured a package of Rs. 20,000 crores for Bihar.
