JAIPUR: Rajasthan Chief Secretary Anil Vaish on Thursday called upon the State Government officials to ensure suitable and timely delivery of information to the applicants under the Right to Information Act and affirmed that an effective enforcement of the legislation would help bring accountability and transparency to the administration. Mr. Vaish, presiding over a high-level meeting here to review the functioning of the RTI Act, said each public authority should prepare a brief note providing details about its officers, functions, rules and regulations and the process for obtaining information. The information about structure and functioning of each department should be freely available and displayed at the State Government's official website for the benefit of citizens, said Mr. Vaish, adding that it was everyone's responsibility to make sure that the RTI Act facilitates people's access to information without any scope for doubt or suspicion. The Principal Secretary (Home), V.S. Singh, said various Government institutions would put up notice boards at their offices detailing the name of Public Information Officer and the process of submitting applications under the RTI Act. The meeting was told that PIOs had been given a booklet, "Queries and Explanations", for guidance on proceeding with applications under the Act, while a users' guide for citizens would be published shortly. Additional Chief Secretaries D.C. Samant and A.K. Pandey, and Secretaries and Heads of various departments were present.
