Vice-Chancellor to stand in for Governor

  • State fixes time limit on recommendation from then Governor Sushil Kumar Shinde
  • Andhra Bank CMD K. Ramakrishnan to be the chief guest

GUNTUR: For the first time a university convocation will be organised in the State within a specified timeframe and the 27th Convocation of Acharya Nagarjuna University will be limited to 75 minutes on Saturday with a grace period of 15 minutes if need arises.

    Honorary doctorates

Acharya Nagarjuna University Vice-Chancellor V. Balamohandas told reporters here on Thursday, "Peeved at the length of university convocations in Andhra Pradesh, the State Government on recommendation from the then Governor Sushil Kumar Shinde fixed a time limit for the procedure."

Following stringent norms prescribed by the State Government the university has decided to give away only three honorary doctorates, two regular research gold medals for Ph.D, two gold medals for M.Phil., 84 gold medals, and eight other prizes, while names of 127 recipients of M.Phil. would be read out.

Governor Rameshwar Thakur, Chancellor of the University, was supposed to preside over the convocation ceremony, but due to "unavoidable circumstances" the Governor expressed his inability to attend the ceremony and granted permission to the Vice-Chancellor to preside.

Andhra Bank Chairman and Managing Director K. Ramakrishnan will be the chief guest and receive honorary doctorate along with A.P. State Cultural Council Chairman Dharmavarapu Subhrahmanyam and Andhra University Vice-Chancellor L. Venugopala Reddy.
