Vamsadhara as well as Nagavali levels fall

HYDERABAD:
The flood threat to Srikakulam town and neighbouring villages subsided on Thursday when the Vamsadhara as well as Nagavali began to fall.
Irrigation officials said no further inflows were expected in both rivers now.
However, low-lying areas at five villages and vast cropped lands were inundated on Wednesday night when the embankment of the Vamsadara breached at Ramakrishnapuram.
After a month-long flood, the Krishna too began to fall. Y. Abdul Basheer, Chief Engineer, Srisailam, said they were filling the dam to the full level short of only 5 tmcft as no more heavy inflows were expected in the river.
The inflows, which reached a peak of 8.5 lakh cusecs during the floods, fell to 2 lakh cusecs at all points of the river course in the State.
Meanwhile, the low-pressure area moved over to Jharkhand on Thursday and was likely to weaken. There were rains at a few places in Coastal Andhra and Telangana while weather was dry in Rayalaseema.
