disability studies

NEW DELHI: To create awareness about the emerging area of disability studies among people and those with disabilities, the Society for Disability and Rehabilitation Studies and the Centre for Promotion of Human Rights Teaching and Research (HURITER) are jointly organising a "Disability Studies Lecture Series" at Jawaharlal Nehru University here on Friday.

Sophie Mitra, Professor in the Department of Economics at Fordham University, US, will deliver the inaugural lecture at JNU's School of International Studies.

CIMA, British Council sign MoU

NEW DELHI: The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and the British Council signed a memorandum of understanding on Thursday to expand their cooperation by offering services mutually beneficial to each other.

Initially CIMA will provide more learning and technical resources relating to management accounting to an increased number of British Council libraries across India. CIMA will also hold a regular programme of advisory sessions for CIMA students at principal British Council centres across the country.

Showcasing

Madhya Pradesh

NEW DELHI: A 15-day "Madhya Pradesh Mela" showcasing handicrafts, handlooms, tourism, folk art, things of daily use and food will be organised at Dilli Haat here beginning September 26.

A meeting was organised at Madhya Pradesh Bhavan here on Thursday to discuss the arrangements for the prestigious event. State Chief Secretary Rakesh Sahani said the people of Delhi should get some exposure to the rich cultural heritage of Madhya Pradesh that is celebrating its Golden Jubilee this year.

Book on women's security

NEW DELHI: Billed as a "veritable Bible on women's security", a new book titled "Women 24 Secure" by Sunil Duggal, a young entrepreneur who spearheads a leading security company, was released by Union Minister Renuka Chowdhary at India Habitat Centre here on Wednesday.

Illustrative, practical and packed with information, the book zeroes in on women's strength and advocates empowering them with practical knowledge.

Bail rejected

New Delhi: Noting that there was no satisfactory explanation as to how a cheque for Rs 6 lakh could land into the prime accused's bank account without her own knowledge, the Delhi High Court today rejected the anticipatory bail petition of a 22-year-old unmarried girl from a "respectable" family.
