Interactive session

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: The Department of Management Studies, IIT Madras hosted an interactive session with Sarath Babu, an alumnus of Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad.

The session was part of the MIST (Management Insights for Social Transformation) initiative, a forum created to bring awareness among the management graduates about social organisations.

Mr. Sarath Babu, is an entrepreneur passionate about creating a difference in the lives of thousands of poor people.

Mr. Sarath Babu spoke at length on the relevance of entrepreneurship in India, interspersing his thoughts with examples from his own life.

Mr. Sarath Babu had to face a lot of difficulties in pursuing education since his mother was the only earning member of a family of five. At a certain stage he had even decided to drop out of school, but then took up book binding to make up for the tuition fees.

Impetus

His stint, managing the affairs of the students' mess at IIM Ahmedabad gave him the impetus for his own entrepreneurial venture — a catering business. He rejected a Rs.8.5 lakh IT job offer. He envisions the company providing jobs to 10,000 people in the next ten years.
