Power shutdown

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday in parts of Perumbakkam, Sholinganallur, Thoraipakkam, Kalidpet-Tiruvottiyur, Ayapakkam, Tiruverkadu, Kadapperi, Chromepet, Chitlapakkam, Nagalkeni, GST Road, Royapettah, Pattaibiram, Stanley area, Vallal Nagar, Padi, Esplanade, Army Quarters, Park Town, VOC Nagar, Royapuram, Nungambakkam, Thousandlights and Maduravoyal and nearby areas such as Vanagaram, Odama Nagar and Noombal for maintenance work.

Employment guidance

The coaching-guidance centre under the Union Ministry of Labour and Employment will help scheduled caste and scheduled tribe candidates to get jobs in the private sector. Those candidates between the age of 18 and 28 and who have passed their class VIII or X, can contact the sub-regional employment officer, 56, Santhome High Road on August 25 at 11 a.m.

New branches

Syndicate Bank opened new branches at Saidapet and Perungudi on August 23. The Saidapet branch is on No.54, Seshachalam Street while Perungudi branch is on No.397, Old Mahabalipuram Road. General manager V. Kalyani presided over the inaugural functions. Both branches offer e-banking and other facilities.

PNB at Tambaram

Punjab National Bank celebrated their 112 years of existence by opening a branch at Bharat Institute of Higher Education & Research at Tambaram. The bank also shifted its Tambaram (East) branch to spacious premises. Zonal manager Jagat Ram inaugurated the new offices.

Workshop

The Varahas Gurucool will organise a personality development workshop on August 26. The morning session will be held at SVS Complex, 109, Sivashanmugham Road in West Tambaram from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The evening session will be conducted between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. It will help participants with problem solving, decision-making and effective communication skills. Gokulashtami

To mark Gokulashtami celebrations, students of various city schools participated in a colouring competition at Vaasal Play School in Anna Nagar on August 20. Students from DAV, Chinmaya, Rajaji Vidyashram, Sindhi Model School, SBOA, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Maharishi Vidyalaya, Alagappa Matriculation and AVM Matriculation participated. The theme of the competition organised by Sri Sarada Sanatana Dharam Vidyalaya was `dasavatara.' Prize distribution function will be held on August 27.

Competitions

Mathulika, an association of plant biology and plant biotechnology will organise a weeklong programme from August 21 to 25. Inter-departmental competitions were held on August 21. To mark the International year of desert plants, an exhibition on cactus varieties was inaugurated on August 24 at SDNB Vaishnav College for Women in Chromepet.
