Health Department takes steps to control viral fever

Thiruvananthapuram: The Health Department has taken adequate fever control measures, including the provision of medicines, IV fluids and adoption of vector control methods, in the coastal areas to contain the epidemic that broke out at Vizhinjam.

At a review meeting called by the Health Minister here on Tuesday to discuss the epidemic situation, health officials said that adequate staff had been provided in all hospitals in the area and that fever clinics were functional in many institutions to deliver emergency medical aid.

Fogging

A team of experts from the Community Medicine Department of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College is working in the coastal area to do epidemiological studies and suggest suitable vector control measures. Fogging is being done to destroy adult mosquitoes and source reduction methods to kill mosquito larvae.

People have been directed to keep water storage containers tightly covered to prevent mosquitoes breeding in them The Director of Health Services, Additional Directors and other senior officials of the department and the head of the Department of Community Medicine of the Medical College took part in the meeting.
