Trader injured in gang attack at Thumpa

Staff Reporter

Thiruvananthapuram: One person was injured when an armed gang went on the rampage at Attinkuzhy in Thumpa police station limits on Wednesday night. The police identified the injured as Shanawaz, a provisions storeowner. The incident occurred around 9.15 p.m.

The assailants, who were wearing masks, damaged shops and terrorised the neighbourhood by exploding country bombs.

According to the police, the incident is linked to the rivalry between the gangs allegedly headed by Aprani Krishnakumar and `Karate' Suresh. Both are wanted by the police in connection with a series of crimes, including murder, arson and attempt to murder.

The police said the attackers had come in search of one Salim, the owner of a car rental agency.

Superintendent of Police (Rural) Yogesh Gupta said efforts were on to arrest Krishnakumar and Suresh who have been proclaimed as wanted men. He said the police would conduct searches at Menemkulam and Kazhakuttam for explosives and arms.
