Elderly woman found murdered

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: An 80-year-old woman Sankar Ambali Narayan Rao, who used to live alone in a bungalow at Mahendra Hills, was found murdered in the bathroom on Thursday. Police suspect that persons familiar with the building's topography and the victim's movements murdered her to take away her jewellery.

"The killers stabbed her to death while she was in the bathroom and took away four gold bangles and a gold chain from her," the Tukaramgate police said. The victim's son lives in the US, while her two daughters reside at Banjara Hills. A cook, Padma, prepares food for the woman.

Two workers, watchman Raju and his wife Laxi live in the cellar of the six-room building. The cook came to the house as usual around 5 p.m. but grew suspicious, as the main doors were ajar.

Padma went inside and saw the woman lying in a pool of blood in the bathroom with multiple knife wounds on her body.

Later, she called up the victim's daughters. Additional Commissioner of Crime Rajiv Trivedi visited the scene of the crime. CLUES team and sniffer dogs have been pressed into service.
