KCR calls off fast

Takes step after Pawar's persuasion

New Delhi: Telangana Rastra Samithi (TRS) chief K Chandrashekhar Rao ended his fast at the Jantar Mantar here late on Thursday night after two days of the protest on the Telangana statehood issue.

He ended the fast after Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar visited him at the protest site and appealed to him to end the fast in the larger interests of the struggle that he is leading on behalf of the people of Telangana.

"The UPA partners are with you in your struggle, and considering the appeal from Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee and others, you should end your fast so as to maintain your health and carry this struggle forward," said Mr Pawar. He then offered Mr Rao a glass of fruit juice, which the TRS leader accepted.

The protest fast began here on Wednesday, a day after the TRS withdrew from the UPA Government to press the statehood issue. - UNI
