BANGALORE: Burglars struck at a software engineer's house in MICO Layout police station limits in the early hours of Thursday and made away with gold and diamond jewellery, silver articles and mobile phones, all estimated at Rs. 3.50 lakh. The police said the incident took place between 1 a.m. and 2.30 a.m. at R. Joseph's second floor house on 6th Cross, 16th Main, 2nd Stage, BTM Layout. When Joseph, his wife and child were asleep in a bedroom, the thieves entered the house by opening the tower bolt of the main door by putting their hands through an adjoining window. The intruders looted the valuables from a safe. Joseph, who woke up around 2.30 a.m., noticed that the main door was open, the police said.
Elderly woman robbed
Two men, who were riding a motorcycle, hit an elderly woman and robbed her of a gold chain estimated at Rs. 45,000 in Basavanagudi police station limits on Wednesday night. The police said that around 8.45 p.m., Sudha Murthy (75) and her daughter Anitha, who had been to Gandhi Bazaar for shopping, were walking home on 1st Main, N.R. Colony. After they had reached the Shop Street in N.R. Colony, the motorists hit Ms. Murthy and snatched her gold chain as she fell on the road. The Basavanagudi police have registered a case.
Driver robbed
Three armed men threatened a driver with a chopper and robbed him of Rs. 900 in cash, a gold chain, a mobile phone and an ATM card in Cottonpet police station limits in the early hours of Thursday.
The police said that Francis, who works as a driver at Nehru Yuvaka Kendra in Madikere, arrived here by a bus around 4.30 a.m. While he was walking towards Nehru Yuvaka Kendra in Okalipuram, the robbers waylaid him near the railway underpass, held a chopper at his neck and relieved him of cash and other articles.
Vehicles recovered
The Bharathinagar police have arrested three persons on charge of vehicle lifting and recovered from them four vans, eight motorcycles, two scooters and a luggage autorickshaw, all estimated at Rs. 6.10 lakh.
The names of the arrested were given as Zaheer (23) and Sadiq (18), both residents of Shivajinagar, and Syed Aleem (20) of Kadugondanahalli.
