dated August 26, 1956: UK troop movement

Important troop movement has been going on in Southern England during the last 24 hours. The greater part of the Third Infantry Division is due to embark at Southampton during the week-end for Malta, where the staff headquarters has already been set up. All roads leading to Southampton were cluttered with military convoys coming from various garrisons in the United Kingdom. The Third Infantry Division is made up mostly of reservists recalled during the last three weeks. The departure of this division for the Mediterranean falls in line with the Government's measures following the nationalisation of the Suez Canal. Other units will leave Britain and Germany within the next few days to reinforce the British Mediterranean garrison.
