dated August 26, 1956: Over-crowding in trains

Mr. O.V. Alagesan, Deputy Railway Minister, told the Lok Sabha on August 25 that the Railway Ministry could not compel anyone to fix the office hours at a particular time. Replying to questions on the staggering of office working hours, recommended by the committee that went into the problem of excessive over-crowding during peak-hours in suburban railway services in Bombay, Calcutta and Madras, he said that already there was some staggering of working hours of offices. The Government would consider whether this could be extended.
