Bidar: Members of the Karnataka State Government Polytechnic College Part Time Teachers Association staged a one-day dharna demanding regularisation of their services in Bidar on Friday. Protestors raised slogans against the Government for turning a deaf ear to their problems. They said the Government had regularised the services of those appointed before 1995, but failed to apply the same policy for those appointed later. As many as 165 part-time teachers were serving in various government polytechnic colleges across the State. They got only meagre salaries and had no job security. They had complained to the Government several times but in vain. To make matters worse, the Government had decided to fill vacancies of 157 teachers in technical institutions including polytechnics through the Karnataka Public Service Commission, they said. "The Government should absorb us rather than go in for fresh appointments. It is unfortunate that it has decided otherwise," said the protestors. They threatened to launch a Statewide protest if the Government went ahead with its decision. Association State unit president Pandurang Malage, district president Praveen Kumar Miraganjkar and general secretary Madhusudan Kulkarni led the strike.
