NEW DELHI: Defying age and law of averages, 11-year-old Fenil Shah stole the thunder by staying undefeated against fancied rivals even as favourite Abhijeet Gupta, second seed G. Rohit and B. Adhiban won in contrasting ways to form the leaders' pack after four rounds of the Parsvnath National junior (under-19) chess championship here on Friday. Fenil, who has a rating of 2063, held Soumitra Majumdar (2192) and fifth seed Jharkhand's Rahul Sangma (2312). Among the girls, R. Preethi held back second seed Kruttika Nadig on the top board while Saheli Nath, defending champion Soumya Swaminathan and Supriya Maji maintained their winning run to lead with perfect scores. Asian under-12 girls' champion Padmini Rout, who made her maiden WIM norm at the same venue in January, scalped a far more experienced Ishwarya Shobana to reach 3.5 points.
