Bangalore: Five-wicket hauls by Tinu Yohannan and J.P. Yadav along with T.P. Singh's unbeaten 115 helped Sanmar Chemplast score a six-wicket victory over Associated Banks and enter the final of the KSCA all-India invitation cricket tournament at the RSI Ground here on Friday. Opting to bat, Associated Banks struggled against the duo of Yohannan and Yadav. Eventually, Associated Banks was bowled out for 155. The Chemplast chase suffered a false start as opener Sujith Somasundar edged Sandeep Maniyan straight into the hands of the slip fielder with his team yet to get off the mark. However, with Singh (115 not out, 122b, 17x4, 2x6) holding firm, Chemplast cruised home with a day to spare.
Uthappa scores century
In another semifinal that commenced at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, host KSCA XI scored 291 for nine at close on the opening day against Indian Oil Corporation (IOC). Opener Robin Uthappa led the way with 129 (183b, 13x4, 2x6) before an uppish reverse sweep off left-arm spinner Gaurav Jathar ended his innings. A collapse in the middle overs that saw the score plummeting from 200 for three to 211 for seven nearly ruined the KSCA XI scorecard before the tail-enders N.C. Aiyappa (29 not out) and Vinay Kumar (27) chipped in with valuable runs to help their team inch towards the 300-mark. The match earlier suffered a delayed start owing to wet spots on the pitch.
The scores: Associated Banks 155 in 47 overs (J.P. Yadav five for 33, Tinu Yohannan five for 62) lost to Sanmar Chemplast 157 for four in 36.2 overs (T.P. Singh 115 not out). KSCA XI 291 for nine in 96 overs (Robin Uthappa 129) vs IOC.
