Floods take a toll on onion production

Staff Reporter

Farmers welcome likely rise in price

KURNOOL: Onion production suffered in major cultivation zones on account of heavy floods.

The crop suffered even in Kurnool district, a major onion-growing zone, due to drought and heavy rain. It is cultivated in over 10,000 hectares in the district. The quality of bulbs harvested in Adoni and Yemmiganur this season is not good. But the second spell of harvest might be of good quality. The price of onion is hovering between Rs. 450 and Rs. 550 at Kurnool market. Once the existing stocks are through, the prices may go up.
