Thrissur gains two points

THRISSUR: Thrissur took a 93-run first-innings lead despite Ernakulam leg-spinner R. Rakesh's match haul of ten wickets in the Central zone under-19 inter-district cricket championship at the Government Engineering College Ground here on Friday.

For Thrissur, captain Pravin Achuthan followed his first-innings century with an unbeaten 66 on Friday while medium-pacer T.U. Anthaf ended the two-dayer with a total of eight wickets.

In the other match, Palakkad gained the first innings lead over Idukki at the Kunnamkulam Senior ground.

Both Thrissur and Palakkad took two points each for their first innings lead. The four-team league series resumes on Sunday.

The scores:

Thrissur 241 & 162 for six decl. in 46 overs (Pravin Achuthan 66 n.o., Jackson 44, R. Rakesh three for 46) drew with Ernakulam 148 in 46.1 over (Jineesh 62, T.U. Anthaf five for 41, Jackson three for 42) & 48 for five (Anthaf three for 17).

Palakkad 234 & 125 for six in 22 overs (Arun Baby 41, Ramesh 31) drew with Idukki 179 in 60.4 overs (Sachin Baby 49, Pius K. Joseph 32) & 82 for no loss in 18 overs (Jithumon 55 n.o.). — Principal Correspondent
