Ali Asgar, Sachin Mohan make merry

Kollam: Ali Asgar (173 not out) and Sachin Mohan (156) slammed centuries as Thiruvananthapuram piled up 457 for four at the end of the first day's play against Kottayam in the South Zone under-19 inter-district cricket tournament at the Ashramam maidan here on Friday.

The two centurions also figured in a 350-run third wicket stand that piled on the agony of Kottayam. Rahul also chipped in with a half-century as Kollam destroyed the innocuous Kottayam attack.

At the Agriculture College ground, Kollam was in a position of strength at the end of the first day. Mediumpacer Iyer Karthik Suresh (five for 32) and Zulfikar (three for 39) bundled out Pathanamthitta for 85 runs. Kollam in reply scored 202 runs and took a 117-run first innings lead. Pathanamthitta in its second innings was struggling at 26 for two at stumps.
