Hyderabad: Centuries by P. Akshath Reddy (135, 16 x 4, 1 x 6) and Habeeb Ahmed (151 not out, 16 x 4) were the highlights of the semifinals between Bhavan's `A' and Wesley Junior College in the semi-final of The Hindu Trophy (under-19) cricket tournament here on Friday. While Akshath's ton went in vain for Bhavan's, Habeeb's turned out to be a match-winning one for Wesley Jr. College. In another semifinal, St. John's Church College scored an eight-wicket win against St. Mary's Junior College (Yousufguda). The scores: The Hindu Trophy (under-19) semifinals: Bhavan's `A' 240 for nine in 80 overs (P. Akshath Reddy 135, K.Nimish Reddy 50, A.Lalith Mohan three for 85) lost to Wesley Jr. College `B' Team 242 for four (Habeeb Ahmed 151 not out, Azharuddin 46). St. Mary's Jr. College, Yousufguda, 142 (Atif 51, Mehdi Hasan 51, M. Dilip three for eight) lost to St. John's Church Jr. College 143 for two (Parth Jhala 42 not out, Neeraj Bist 42, Achintya Rao 30 not out).
Sanketh, Nikhilesh shine
Centuries by Nikhilesh Reddy (103, 11 x 4) for Sporting XI and Sanketh Shah (110) for Gemini Friends were the higlights of the A-Division (two-day) league cricket championship matches. The scores: A-Division (two-day) league: Sporting XI 252 and 281 for five (Nikilesh Reddy 103, S.S.Bharath 92, T.Shiva Prasad 54, Wasim Ali four for 57) drew with Vimco 192 (Shiva five for 73, Sunil five for 64). Arun Kanth staved off a stiff challenge from Khaja Jaleel, subduing the latter 21-14, 18-21, 21-10 in the boys' pre-quarterfinals of the State sub-junior badminton championships at the Officers Club, Warangal on Friday, according to information received here. A century by S. Nikhilesh (133, 23 x 4, 2 x 6) fashioned Don Bosco High School's impressive 112-run win against Nasr school in the Glendale Trophy (under-13) inter-schools cricket tournament. The scores: All Saint's HS 176 for four (Maneesh 49, Laxman 38 not out) bt Ivy League 112 (Vivek four for 18). Kennedy HS 82 (V.R. Pranay three for 21) lost to Jubilee Hills PS 83 for four. Ivy League 148 for seven (Fahad Hussain 44) bt Oakridge 88. Gowtham Model School 152 for seven bt Oakridge 42 (Sai Charan four for five, Saideep three for 11). Government High School (Osmania) scored a 25-20, 20-25, 15-13 win against Kendriya Vidyalaya (Picket) to enter the boys semifinals of the Regal Sports inter-school volleyball tournament for Naresh memorial trophy at Musheerabad Playground.
