Esha cruises into final

NEW DELHI: Esha Monga cruised into the final with an 11-9, 11-8, 11-5, 11-6 win over Tina Khurana in the junior girls' section of the 34th Manav Sthali Open table tennis tournament at the NDMC Indoor stadium here on Friday.

Esha will fight it out with Nikita Rautela, who rallied to beat Manika Batra 11-0, 5-11, 11-9, 5-11, 7-11, 11-5, 13-11.

In the boys' final, Varun Anand will take on Pranshu Gupta, who struggled to get past Aman Ahuja. The sub-junior titles went to Sarthak Gandhi in the boys' section, and Meghna Kakaria in the girls.

The results: Boys: Junior (semifinals): Varun Anand bt Rajat Kumar 11-6, 13-11, 7-11, 11-7, 11-4, Pranshu Gupta bt Aman Ahuja 11-6, 12-14, 7-11, 8-11, 11-7, 11-7, 11-6.

Sub-junior (final): Sarthak Gandhi bt Akshit Dhall 11-5, 13-11, 11-8.

Girls: Junior (semifinals): Esha Monga bt Tina Khurana 11-9, 11-8, 11-5, 11-6, Nikita Rautela bt Manika Batra 11-0, 5-11, 11-9, 5-11, 7-11, 11-5, 13-11.

Sub-junior (final): Meghna Kakaria bt Manika Batra 9-11, 11-9, 9-11, 11-9, 11-6.
