Land acquisition: CPI(M) refutes Congress charge
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD:
The CPI (M) has refuted the Congress charge that it was adopting "double standard" vis-à-vis Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal on land acquisition for projects and industries. The party asserted that was not opposed to acquiring lands but to "irregularities and corruption" in the process.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, CPI (M) MLAs T. Veerabhadram, M.A. Gafoor, S. Rajaiah and others accused the Congress leaders of making an "inept comparison" between the two States. They charged the State Government with changing the original plan of the Outer Ring Road to help the "influential" while rendering "injustice" to the poor.
Accusing the Congress Government of indulging in "real estate business," they said the lands acquired in Kokapet were sold in "open auction." This was never done in West Bengal and Congress leaders had no moral right to criticise the Marxist-ruled State. They said the CPI (M) was ready for a debate at any place to "prove" that irregularities had taken place.
