Dravidian University fellowships

HYDERABAD: Dravidian University at Kuppam in Chitttoor district has instituted fellowships for senior and young scholars to promote research works in the areas of literature, language, history and culture relating to Dravidian studies.

The University has created Chairs in the names of Western and Dravidian scholars to encourage research in individual Dravidian languages as well as comparative Dravidian studies. These are Bishop Caldwell's Chair for Dravidian Studies, C. P. Brown's Chair for Telugu Studies, Kittel Chair for Kannada Studies, Constantine Beschle Chair for Tamil Studies and Gundert Chair for Malayalam Studies.

Among the applications received for these Chairs, T. B. Venugopala Panicker, former Professor and Head, Department of Malayalam, University of Calicut, Kerala was selected for the fellowship under Gundert Chair for Malayalam Studies.

For its novel "off-campus associate fellowships", the University has selected Susmita Poddar of Kolkata for her project, "Uproot of Oraons: Crisis of identity and survival."
