Majlis persuaded to raise issue of Hyderabad as UT : BJP MLA

HYDERABAD: The Bharatiya Janata Party MLA G. Kishan Reddy has accused Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy of prevailing over the Majlis-ittehadul-Muslimeen (MIM) to raise the issue of declaring Hyderabad a Union Territory in the event that separate Telangana is created.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Mr. Kishan Reddy said the move was to dilute the Telangana sentiment and prevent Hyderabad from being part of Telangana state. He accused the Chief Minister of holding discussions with the MIM leaders and persuading them to raise the issue of Hyderabad as Union Territory. "The attempt is only to create confusion in the minds of people and water down the Telangana movement," he said. The BJP leader took exception to the statement by the Telangana Regional Congress Coordination Committee (TRCCC) convenor G. Chinna Reddy that there was no need for a separate Telangana state.

He recalled that the TRCCC members were the first to raise the backwardness of Telangana and demanding a separate State.
