Nilin Sai Krish advances

Chennai: Anna University's Nilin Sai Krish defeated Loyola College's Jason 8-7 (7-5) in a first qualifying round match of the Bertram memorial singles tennis tournament at the Loyola College, here on Friday.

In the first round of the volleyball league, Loyola Whites, Chennai, downed Jamal Md., Tiruchi, 25-9, 25-23, 25-17.

DAV BHEL bags trophy

DAV BHEL School, Ranipet, bagged the rolling trophy in the district chess tournament conducted jointly by the Bharathi Chess Academy and Shrishti Matriculation Higher Secondary School for school and college students in connection with the Sepoy Mutiny Centenary celebration at the school premises in Brammapuram near Vellore recently.

Peter Chandra Pandian, District Sports Officer, gave away the trophy.

The winners: Under-8: 1. Sathyanarayanan (Shrishti Matriculation Higher Secondary School), 2. Vijay Ashwanth (Vellore Vallal Krishnaswamy English Medium School). Under-10: 1. Damodaran (Shrishti MHSS), 2. Subash Shankar (Holy Cross MHSS). Under-12: 1. Abhinaya (Shrishti Vidyashram), 2. Arvind Kumar (Don Bosco HS). Under-16: 1. Mohammed Shameel (St. Paul's Matriculation School), 2. Deepankar Sinha (DAV BHEL School, Ranipet).

Under-25: 1. Yazhiniyan (VIT), 2. Dinakaran (Kaveripakkam Arts College).

Chennai lifts titles

Sathyabama Deemed University and MOP Vaishnav College (both from Chennai) emerged the men's and women's champion respectively in the second State inter-collegiate basketball tournament at the Vysya College courts here recently.

Sathyabama scored a 71-67 victory over Madras Christian College (Chennai) for the Babu Shankar memorial trophy for men, while MOP coasted to a 70-51 win over JPR Engineering College (Chennai) to lift the R. Saradhathambal memorial trophy for women.
