Kakinada: The Rangaraya Government Medical College here has at last been posted with new professors to fill the long-pending vacancies. On clearance by the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC), 13 associate professors have been elevated to the post of professors and absorbed in the existing vacancies. Orders in this regard were received by college principal Raj Kumar a couple of days ago. Among the new professors, except Himakar, the new head of psychiatry department, all others are working as associates in the college for quite sometime. K.S.R. Swamy, M.V.V. Tiumala Rao and P. Vijaya Kumar are now heading three medical units filling the existing vacancies. Similarly, K. Babji, P. Venkata Buddha and M. Mahalakshmi are new professors for the three surgical units. Vikram Kumar Subba Rao and Subrahmanyam are the new chiefs of the three paediatric units. However, in case of gynaecology, the Government has filled only two posts of professors by elevating Bharata Lakshmi and Satyanarayana Raju leaving one post vacant. M. Raghavendra Rao is the new chief of TB unit.
Seniority issue
Though there are vacancies in dermatology, ENT, ophthalmology and STD wings, the Government kept them vacant, obviously due to the controversy over the seniority issue. The two departments of dermatology and STD, though separate, are now currently being looked after by an associate professor as the additional charge.
