Court orders Jama Masjid repair
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI:
The Delhi High Court on Friday directed the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to immediately start repair works at the historic Jama Masjid here in the Capital.
A Division Bench of the Court comprising Justice Vijender Jain and Justice Rekha Sharma issued the directions to ASI after perusing a preliminary conservation report submitted to the Court by Nazmi Waziri, counsel for the Delhi Waqf Board.
Mr. Waziri submitted that the conservation report running into 350 pages and having over 11 hundred photographs had highlighted places in the mosque requiring immediate short-term and long-term repairs.
Mr. Waziri further submitted that he had already supplied a copy of the report to ASI.
The Court also directed the MCD and the Delhi police to file replies to an allegation that encroachers who had been removed from around the mosque had come back.
