Chikungunya: preventive measures intensified

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Government on Friday said steps to prevent chikungunya and other viral diseases have been intensified. All the health units of the Government are taking coordinated action with regard to prevention, treatment of the affected and to check the further spread of the diseases, according to an official press release.

Special wings will function round-the-clock on all days in primary health centres, hospitals and health centres of local bodies for treating patients.

Similarly, special wards had been created to treat those affected.

Besides, mosquito-eradication works would be intensified. The government has appealed to the public to keep their surroundings clean and prevent stagnation of water and extend their cooperation to health workers.

People's representatives, local personalities, social activists and self-help groups should enlist the cooperation of the public in eradicating mosquitoes, the release said.
