Chennai : The Chennai Corporation, acting on orders from the Election Commission, will from Saturday take up door-to-door verification of electoral rolls to prepare a comprehensive voter list that will contain the voter's photograph and personal details. Officials will visit houses with a list that already has the photos affixed and crosscheck with residents if the details are correct, a release from the Corporation said on Friday. This is the first phase of the verification process. Any resident of the house, above 18 years, can verify details for the family and sign on a space allotted on the checklist if details are found correct. The electoral photo identity cards must be shown to the officer. If the voter has expired or has shifted residence, the verification officer will make the note on the checklist. If the new address is known, it will also be noted. Residents can point out any corrections in the personal details listed or if the wrong photograph is printed. In the event that there is no photo or if the photo is wrong or unclear, residents can submit a recent passport-sized photograph in colour. In case residents have moved into new houses and they want their personal details renewed, they can request the officer for form 8A (shift within the same constituency) or form 6 (to another constituency) and submit filled up applications. Passport photographs should be supplied. This process would be completed in phases. For more information, residents can contact the following Corporation zonal offices.
