HYDERABAD: Enjoying the welcome break from classrooms, hundreds of children from 65 schools in the twin cities took part in competitive events at the Horlicks Wiz Kids -2006, the country's largest inter-school festival here on Friday. The annual event, organised across 25 cities in the country, was held at Satya Sai Nigamagamam here. The participants from classes V to XII were categorised into different groups. The event provided a platform for students to encourage participation and team spirit. More than 30 competitions were held in the fields of music, literature, dance, creative writing, speaking, talent, art and design.
`So cool'
Sameer, Kaushik and Charan, Class XI students of Abhyas Residential School who took part in quite a few events said they loved the event for it focused on extra-curricular activities. Uzma (X Std.) of Mount Banjara High School said, "It is cool and we are having great fun." Organised for the third successive year, the theme for this year's two-day event was `Generation- Taller, stronger and sharper'.
Wiz kid contest
On the first day children took part in quiz, essay writing, pencil sketching, `little cook', mehendi design, group singing, short play, group dance, extempore, face painting etc. In the wiz kids contest, two students selected by each school appeared for a preliminary written test.
The finale
For Saturday, contests like `Speaker of the Year', fancy dress, style act, Antakshari finals, crossword, drawing, painting, etc. are lined up besides the Wiz team finals to select two students to represent the city in the finals to be held at Bangalore on November 11.
