HYDERABAD: Commemorating 135 years of St. Ann's High School, Secunderabad, astronaut Rakesh Sharma launched a special edition of the school magazine on Friday. A former alumnus of the school, Sharma was in the city for a day to do the honours for his alma mater. Sharma underlined the importance of hard work to achieve one's goals.
Sense of discipline
He said St. Ann's had instilled a strong sense of discipline in him and laid a strong foundation in his formative years. Students sang `Saare jahan se achcha,' an apt song for the occasion, considering Sharma had described India the same way from space when asked by late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The event held at the school playground began with a guard of honour with school Principal Sister Antonia leading the dignitary. P. Cooper, who taught the astronaut in primary school in 1957, remembered him as a "timid boy and as someone who she never imagined would one day venture into space." Senior schoolteacher Indira Narayan welcomed the gathering.
