Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh asked to be more alert
New Delhi:
The Union Home Ministry has warned of the possibility of strikes by Pakistan-based militant groups during the 10-day Ganesh festival beginning on August 27.
It has advised all States, especially Maharashtra, to ensure tight security and prepare to quell any attempt by militant groups to foment trouble. An official spokesman of the Ministry said Maharashtra, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh were in particular asked to be more watchful.
The Ministry has ordered tight screening of Ganesh processions. Besides calling for strengthening human and technical intelligence, it said metal detectors must be installed and more security personnel deployed at important temples. PTI
