BANGALORE: Home Minister M.P. Prakash on Friday said that the helmet rule would be implemented from September 1 and the Government was thinking of relaxing it in case of pillion riders. He told presspersons here that though the Government issued an order earlier making helmets compulsory for the rider and pillion rider, it was thinking of relaxing the rule following representations from the people. Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy would take a decision on the matter shortly.
Petition
Mr. Prakash said if the rule had to be relaxed, the Government would have to file a review petition in the Karnataka High Court which had directed it to make helmets mandatory for the rider and pillion rider.
Defamation case
On the defamation case filed against the Chief Minister, Minister for Forests C. Chennigappa and himself by suspended BJP MLC Janardhan Reddy and a Bellary court issuing summons for their personal appearance on September 7, Mr. Prakash said they were consulting legal experts on the matter.
Directive
Meanwhile, a Bangalore court which is hearing the defamation suit filed by the Chief Minister and the two Ministers against Mr. Reddy has directed the latter to be appear before it on September 4. The Chief Minister and the two Ministers are yet to receive summons issued by the Bellary court.
