NEW DELHI: The prospective list of candidates for contesting the upcoming Delhi University Students' Union polls was announced after scrutiny of nominations on Friday. A large number of candidates have filed their nominations for various posts in the students' union polls this time round. While there are some expected faces with professional political leanings, there are a few fresh ones around too. The post of president has attracted the largest number of candidates to stand at 58. Fifty-four students have filed their nominations for the post of vice-president, 57 for secretary and 54 for joint secretary. The National Students' Union of India (NSUI) has projected ten candidates for the upcoming elections. There are five new faces on its list -- Kabir Tokas, Poonam Yadav, Abhimanyu Singh, Tarun Tanwar and Devraj Tehlan. The other candidates are Amrita Dhawan, Ramit Sherawat, Shashi Kant, Deepak Choudhury and Parvesh Choudhury. Seven candidates from the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) have filed for all the four posts. The candidates who have been nominated are Jyoti Mahlawat, Gargi Lakhanpal, Surendra Rawat, Jitendra Shaukeen, Kapil Garg, Navendra Gullia and Vikas Dhaiya. With the two major student parties not willing to reveal their final list till the last minute, a clearer picture will only emerge on the last day of withdrawal of nominations on Monday. An independent student group, United Students, is also contesting the elections this time. The group has filed nominations for all four posts.
