Retired court staff to be felicitated

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Perhaps for the fist time in the history of Indian judiciary, its highest functionary — the Chief Justice of India — will felicitate two "jamedars" who form the last rung of the judiciary, at a function in Bangalore on Saturday. The "jamedars" are employed to carry silver maces when the judges go about their duties in the High Court. They walk in front of the judges holding the mace.

N. Kumar and Nagmohan Das, judges of the Karnataka High Court, told presspersons here on Friday that the Chief Justice of India Y.K. Sabharwal would participate in a function organised by the High Court at Shikshakara Sadan at SBM Circle, Bangalore, to felicitate retired employees of the court who are 75 years and above. They said 25 such employees, including two "jamedars" would be felicitated.

They said this is the first time in the history of the judiciary that the CJI would be participating in such a felicitation involving retired employees at all levels.
