MANILA: Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo arrived in Guimaras Province on Saturday to inspect the site of massive oil spill caused by a sunken tanker in the central region two weeks ago, local TV reported. Ms. Arroyo, who flew to Nueva Valencia, the worst-hit municipality of Guimaras, called for a meeting with a special task force. She declared the oil spill a national calamity as the impacted 20 fishing villages, tourism attractions and a major marine wild life reserve. The Government said the country had no capability to refloat the tanker, which has released into the sea more than 2,00,000 litres of the 20,00,000 litres it carried. More than 40,000 persons and 240 km of coastline have been affected by oil. Xinhua
