PANAJI: Goa is all set to celebrate Ganesh festival beginning from Sunday. Pandals have been set up across the State to install Ganesh idols. With the growing consciousness about environment, the State has banned idols made of plaster of Paris. The spiralling prices of essential commodities, fruits and sweetmeats does not seem to have dampened the spirit of the common man on the eve of the festival. Security has been tightened at venues of sarvajanik Ganesh festivals, on account of threat perception advisories issued by the Union Government to the law and order enforcing agencies. There is bound to be some restraint and restriction on the use of fireworks, police sources said.
