BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Friday posted to August 30 petitions by parents of six school children challenging a notification by the State barring children of schools with Central syllabus from participating in the selection trials for table tennis tournament to be conducted by the School Games Federation of India (SGFI). The petitioners, Nagesh Raju and five others, said their children were studying in schools following Central syllabus. They said their wards had participated and done well in table tennis tournaments. Mr. Raju said his daughter Poojitha, who was studying in a private Engilsh-medium school in Bangalore, has won several State and national awards in table tennis. In 2004, she had come second in the SGFI games. He said the Department of Public Instruction on July 10. 2006 issued a notification stating that students studying in schools following the Central syllabus would not be allowed to participate in the district and State-level table tennis selection to represent the State in the SGFI contest. The selection trials were to be conducted by the Education Department.
