BANGALORE: The Chief Justice of India, Y.K. Sabharwal, called upon the court employees to work with integrity and honesty. "A devoted staff has to lead by example... be a role model and strengthen the confidence of the common man," Mr. Sabharwal said. "I am saying this as the kartha of the joint family of judges, advocates and the staff," he said. Mr. Sabharwal was speaking at the function to felicitate and honour the employees of the High Court on Saturday. The function was part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the High Court. The Chief Justice of India was felicitated on the occasion. Mr. Sabharwal said the court staff formed an important link in the judicial system. It was only because of the active cooperation and assistance of the staff that the judiciary had attained its stature. The staff interacted with the litigants every day for various procedural work. "If at that level your integrity is not high, the litigant will go with a wrong impression about the judiciary," he said. "If an higher functionary fails to discharge his duties without honesty he will become a burden to the institution, compared to the lower functionary who works with honesty. It all depends whether the role assigned to us is performed as required, whether it is lower or a higher functionary," he said. He said the High Court staff should become a model not only for the staff in district courts but also to the State Government employees. The Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court, Cyriac Joseph, said the felicitation of the 24 former High Court employees was a reflection of the High Court's appreciation of the dedicated work of the former and present staff.
One of the best
"It is because of your work that our High Court is considered as one of the best in the country," he said. He asked the staff to imbibe in themselves the values with which the felicitated employees worked. He said a proposal had been sent to the State Government seeking increase in the pay-scale of the staff. Advocate-General Uday Holla spoke. Mr. Sabharwal felicitated 94-year-old Srinivasan Rangaiah, who served in the High Court for 35 years. The others who were felicitated were K. Nagaraja Rao, S. Bheema Rao, P.P. Shivanna, B.A. Patil, K.T. Deshak, D.P. Choodappa, C.B. Ramamurthy, T. Venugopal, Gopal Srinivas Yadavi, Venkataramana, V.G. Srinivasa Rao, V. Subba Rao, Venkatachala Shastry, H.R. Narayana Rao, V.A.
