`Service to pilgrims first priority of TTD'

Accommodation within common man's reach should be provided, says board member

  • DPP programmes should be documented to campaign extensively in interior areas

    VIJAYAWADA : Extending services to pilgrims who come to offer prayers to Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala is the first priority of the Tirumala-Tirupati Dewasthanams, said Chadalawada Sudha.

    Propagation of spirituality

    Dr. Sudha who was re-nominated member of the TTD Board told reporters on Saturday inexpensive accommodation should be provided at Tirumala.

    TTD should focus on the propagation of spirituality along with religious programmes it was taking up through the Dharma Prachara Parishad, she said.

    She said the Dharma Prachara Parishad (DPP) is conducting religious and spiritual programmes in the Lambadi Tandas in Krishna district on an experimental basis with tremendous response. .

    About the controversy of allowing meetings and programmes by non-Hindu religious outfits on Seven Hill, she said it was not proper.

    "Will Hindus be allowed to have meetings or conduct programmes in the Vatican or in Makkah?" she asked.

    Temple upkeep

    Dr. Sudha said TTD had proposed a programme to provide funds for the maintenance and upkeep of small temple in interior areas.

    The TTD plans to cover 100 temples in each district with each temple being sanctioned Rs 2,000 a month for their upkeep. Siddhartha Pinnamaneni Institute of Medical Sciences secretary-general Chadalawada Nageswara Rao thanked the Government for re-nominating Dr. Sudha to the board.
