KOTTAYAM: Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) will take measures to curb the unethical trade practices of private moneylenders in the State, Sriramakrishnan, State president, told mediapersons here on Saturday. He said the DYFI would extend legal aid and form action councils to help victims of physical assault by the mafia. Mr. Sriramakrishnan said a section of the law enforcing agencies, including the police, was helping the mafia. Legal loopholes in the Negotiable Instruments Act, the Hire Purchase Act and the Kerala Money Lenders Act hindered the curbing of unethical trade practices. The DYFI plans to seek suggestions from the public to tackle the situation. He said these suggestions would form the basis for a campaign to effect amendments in the relevant rules and regulations. The DYFI would also organise a campaign among Parliament members and State Assembly members calling for amendments in the Acts.
